Dragon Facts
Dragons are warm blooded creatures, where their body temperature is determined internally.
A dragons bones are hollow for lightness, yet tougher than reinforced concrete and much lighter.
The evaluated power in the bite of a dragon to put to an average is 2 tons per centimeter cube.(in comparison it could easily gnaw steel)
The dragons body is almost completely covered with tough, shiny scales, though not on his under neck or stomach. To protect these soft areas, dragons often wear a jeweled breastplate. Using his saliva, which has powerful adhesive properties, the dragon will often place precious stones on his neck and stomach for protection as well as adornment.
The scales are pentagonal, and shaped like a teardrop, with two long sides and two shorter ones, and a very short fifth side attached to the skin. The dragon can make them stand on end whenever he likes to preen them.
The dragon is a very clean creature and takes great care always to keep his skin and scales clean and immaculate.
The dragon does not need to shed off his skin like most other reptiles. As the scales grow, they are renewed automatically, like human nails and hair.
A dragons coloring is rarely uniform, the scales being several hues from one of the main color categories, with a metalic lustre. When the scales have a pale, opaque look, it is a sure sign of ill health.
Dragons eyes most commonly are vertically slitted and reptilian.
The dragons Fire breath weapon is not a magical thing, but has a real scientific explanation. When we eat, our body by digesting, created a gas know as Methane (CH4) forms, as well as Hydrogen gasses from the food as well as when the body is working hard. Dragons have a specific kind of "lung" pouches in the chest that will serve as a bag/canister to hold these gases that will be later mixed with a small amount of phosphor (P4) that has the propriety to ignite in fire at the contact of air. When the dragon wants to breathe fire, the methane is released into the lung and when the gas is in the air, the phosphor ignites and also puts the methane in fire. Another use of these gasses, or mainly the hydrogen that collects in these, 'gas lungs' is to aid in flight, for when the 'gas lungs' is full, it is exactly like what happens if you put hydrogen into a balloon- it rises and expands, assisting to raise the dragons huge mass off the ground, and into the sky.
Cold/Frost breath? Yes, it is possible too. Some dragons breathe a cone of frost, the explanation for this resides also in the food that the dragon ingests. The food is broken down into the stomach, primary for nutrition but the remains bear some chemical reactions that will give a gas, Nitrogen. (N2) The gas is compressed by extremely strong muscles, exactly alike the base system of a refrigeration system, the dragon doesn't need a thing for it because it is spontaneous and painless. When a dragon needs to freeze an opponent, the highly compressed nitrogen, that almost reaches the liquid state, is release in the lungs and when the gas comes into air, it uncompresses at an unimaginable speed. That result in the gas absorbs all the heat in the environment. This causes the temperature in the breath to drop to an average of -50°C. Anyone caught in the path of the breath without heavy heat protection are at least seriously injured and only death remains for the weaker one.
Acid Breather- The easiest of them, all organic creatures secrete gastric acid to break down their food. Dragons who can spit acid have a special organ that produces a powerful acid (probably Hydrocloric Acid) that the dragon releases when he breathes, and the opponent is badly burned by the acid.
Dragons lay eggs called clutches, the egg shell being very hard that will weaken with time until the hatching stage. With all eggs, they need to be kept warm, and for the Fire dragons, they make a nest of rocks that surround and cover the eggs. Then they blast large amounts of fire onto the rocky nest, keeping the eggs warmer for longer periods of time.
The temperature of the eggs while the dragletts are forming inside, will determine the sex of the dragon. The cooler the temperature, the more likley the offspring will be female.
The mating process is known as Dragon-Slide; the two partners fly thousands of feet up into the sky and after a moment of spectacular flips and summersaults, they lock their back talons and close their wings, makeing a free-fall towards the earth. This is an amazing sight to witness, the drop a test of faith towards each other. Then at less than 30 feet from the ground they open their wings, and level out, scorching the land with two huge blasts of flame. The dragons unsusual and spectacular mating process is mainly because dragons love speed and risk, and add these to the pleasure of love... you have a sensation like that of which humans could never experience.
